Welcome To My Blog :o)

Well this is officially my first 'blog'! I have no idea what I am doing and have literally spent a whole two hours trying to edit the layout of my blog page..... hmmm still not 100% but that can be on tomorrow's agenda!

So I guess I should post a little about myself and my wonderful family... where to start? I am engaged to Garry, my partner of 10 years. We have on several occasions tried to get married, but I have been pregnant twice and the third time (which we thought was lucky) I was diagnosed with stage two, Papillary Thyroid Cancer, but more on that later!

I've kind of been through the run of the mill.... I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) at the age of 17, at 136kgs I knew that I needed to loose weight. However, when talking to a doctor specialising in fertility, I was told the liklihood of conceiving our own child is extremely slim. At the age of 18, I had 17 years to wait until I was at a desirable age to begin IVF, which was not an option for us. Following this, I made a dramatic decision to have gastric lap-banding surgery in a final bid to have our own baby, on our own. This was in September 2006, 15 months later and 45kgs down and at a Gun's N Roses concert- I discovered I was 10 weeks pregnant with our first child. Brayden William James was born 13th January 2008, perfectly healthy, absolutely beautiful and proudly ours!

I won't go and post my whole life story, but the last three years have flown by and changed us for the better. In 2009, Garry and I were working long hours in Perth- we hardly saw each other! He was a despatch manager at a large plumbing company whilst I was working full time a child care centre running the babies room. I had 7 babies in my room plus my own (Brayden- who I was breastfeeding at the time.) On the 11th February 2009, Garry, Brayden and I were discharged from hospital after pulling an all nighter - Brayden had his second bout of serious Micro Plasma Pneumonia and we were absolutley exhausted. This was the day that was about to change our lives.... forever!! At 10am, Garry received a phone call from my mum, who informed me that my step dad who had been in my life since I was 11 years old had just been killed in a car accident. A phone call that I could never have seen coming, something that I will never forget but at the same time it gave us so much. The next week was a blur, Wednesday the 18th February we said our final goodbye's to Graham and the following day Garry and I made the huge decision to leave our house in Perth, and move down to Bridgetown (3 hours away) to support my mum, her other 6 children and assist with the Courier business Graham loved so much! On Saturday the 21st February, that familiar gut instinct came over me... most of you mum's would know it. The gut instinct that tells you to drive to the chemist at some strange hour and buy a pregnancy test "just to check". Garry and I had not been using contraception after Brayden, as we believed any little miracle that came along would be a huge blessing! Along came Connor, in the form of vomiting, nausea, cravings, swallen ankles and much much more!! His pregnancy was a nightmare, especially as it was unexpected and I was suffering premature labour from 29 weeks. The last 11 weeks was spent in bed where possibly (considering I had a 19 month old at the time- I did fairly well to keep him in for as long as I did).

Connor Graham was born on the 9th of October 2009, again he was perfect, beautiful and proudly all ours!!

Now my boys are 3 years and 17 months old, they are funny, cute but most of all they are typical boys!! Extremely active and on the go! I have created this blog to create a real support network for other mums to go to when they have crayon all up the wall, or piddle on the couch or just simply looking for a easy, fun, cheap activity to do with their children. With my childcare background and experience as a mother, I will try share plenty of inspiring ideas to share with your children and give advice where I feel I can!! I am not a expert who has studied at University, I have done my diploma at tafe- but in my opinion that is all theory. I can only talk on my experiences in the industry and my experience as a mum or eldest child of 7!

Thank you for taking the time to follow my blog, I hope it is amusing, funny, inspiring but most of all real and something you can relate to without all the competetive crap that goes on in mother's groups etc. Enjoy the read and please please make sure you contribute- whether it is a recipe you have tried or a cleaning technique you swear by- as mum's we all want to know about it!!

Until tomorrow, Take care and remember how lucky you are to be a mummy!

Love Tahlia
xoxo
